Grass Roots Soccer

A new innovative program called Grassroot Soccer kicked off in Lilongwe form last month October. The program is under the Baylor Children's Foundation in Lilongwe. The program which uses the power of soccer in the fight against HIV/AIDS aims to train over 700 youth as peer educators to deliver a 10 part curriculum to their fellow young people. It intends to get over 2000 young people tested to know their sero status and if found positve be refferd to ongoing treatment and supportive counseling.

The program is currently running in three areas in Lilongwe: Area 25, Area 36 and Kawale where over 3000 you tha have already been enrolled in the program and are being equipped with skill to communicate assertively, make informed healthy decisions and address sigmatisation issues among their peers.

As of This Friday, 7th November, 2008, we will be graduating three of groups who have completed their 10-part curriculum.
